WEEKLY SERMON

3-26-07

Text Box: I heard a story the other day about a little boy who was talking to his Sunday school teacher and said you know it says in the bible that the children of Israel left Egypt, then the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness, and the children of Israel battled the Philistines, and the children of Israel went to the promised land. The teacher said yes that is true. The little boy said if the children of Israel were doing all these things what were the adults doing?
It really makes you think. I see baby Christians, one that has just found salvation, and the excitement and the fire they have for the love of God. They can not wait to run out and tell someone about their new discovery in this on fire feeling they have for this new salvation. It's like watching a little kid out in public when they are dancing or singing and they don't care who would be listening or watching them, they are just happy doing what they want. What are the adults doing?  Once we grow into adulthood, we are taught many different things, or our minds see different things, and we feel embarrassment or we are too shy to do these things. This is how most of us full grown Christians become once we get older. We lose the fire and zest as we become older. I love to watch a baby Christian as they greet non-Christians or people they are not sure if they are Christians or not. They start talking about the "new" discovery they found in this salvation. They also have that child truth that can really hurt us older Christians because we know what we should be doing that we are not, or that what they say is the hard truth.
These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.                   John 15:11
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory; 1 Peter 1:8
Rejoice and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Matthew 5:12
If we look at these few verses we see that our joy should be full and it is His joy that is inside us and He wants it to remain that zest inside of us and pour out to all we meet. You have love for a being you can not see yet you believe and you rejoice not only with joy, but unspeakable joy. Just as the baby Christian has that unspeakable joy. And while we have that joy we are filled to overflowing with His glory. His glory is because of the joy we have. The joy and excitement to spread His glory. We are to rejoice because our reward in heaven will be more than we could possibly fathom in this life. Just remember the prophets were so persecuted they were beheaded, mocked, and tortured just for their excitement to spread His love and word, and their rewards in heaven were far beyond all the riches of King Solomon on earth. Take a deep breath, the breath of life that only God can give, and be filled with the fire to keep the excitement of the child in Christ.
I for one hope to never lose my zest and that child like fun and excitement to tell anyone about the true love of my Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Laugh and be filled with the excitement of  Him.
With love in Jesus Christ
